    EPOX EP-MGF6100-M No USB Sound

This is a Socket AM2 Nvdia board with GeForce 6100 chipset.

The Onboard sound does not work if I use USB headphones but does work if I use the mini RCA jack. I did use the USB ports on the actual motherboard.

Made me wonder how USB talks to the audio chip in every other motherboard but not this one. I do find the audio a bit weak. I could replace the small caps near the audio port stack
but I don't expect it to fix the USB sound.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I could just add a PCI audio card but it's nice to have front-panel plug in sound.

I'm not sure what you mean. USB headphones don't rely on the integrated audio codec IC, they have their own audo codec IC. It'll show up as 2 different "sound cards" to the operating system. You have to tell the operating system to choose one or the other to ouptut the audio signal.
