    Proactively recap ASUS P2B-B ?

Hi everyone. I have an ASUS P2B-B (Baby AT/mATX) motherboard which is the heart of my DOS/Win98 gaming machine. I like it so much that I bought a second one off eBay.

Both boards work fine (now) but I worry about the caps going bad at some point. Would it be a good idea to proactively replace the caps on one of them even though it shows no signs of problems? What's the consensus on elective surgery here?

If it looks fine and works fine, don't replace the caps, why take the risk? you can always fix it at a later point.

on a 15+ year old board, I recap without question. The P2B is no stranger to bad caps....I run the P2B-D models in a couple retro boxes.

Really? I had a P2B-F with Chemi-con LXZs! (IIRC) I would think that the only bad caps would be dried up caps... Unless some smaller caps end up being a problem...

Yup, I've redone quite a few of them in the past.

I usually think later boards when I think of classic bad caps, mostly 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. (Which seems to mostly align with the amount of Antec PSUs with visibly bad caps, where someone has to be a complete moron to not detect bad caps! Based on my findings, most Antecs with bulging Fuhjyyu caps that I saw, were from 2003 and 2004 and maybe 2002.) Except for MSI and Abit...

MSI possibly takes the cake for pre-2000 motherboards with bad caps! For those damn Chhsi caps, IIRC.

Followed by Abit, for their bad cap fiasco on socket 370 motherboards...

I've recapped plenty of bad caps boards from the socket 7 era....and that was 97~99. A lot were Soyo (Wendell caps) in those days, but none were immune. The P2B wasn't a really common one, but I've seen more than a few of them.
