Re: Dish Network VIP622 Power Supply Ticking

I fixed a few satellite receivers, but no... haven't seen that there. However I have seen cracked, shorted and burnt chip capacitors and resistors (some with other weird failures) on other power supplies.
You can brake them if you don't have enough heat, or some come faulty from the manufacturer. You never know.

Ok. I've surely used enough heat, but they have a common defect there. Most of them if i push with a plastic part on that specific capacitor (just slight pressure) the psu stops ticking and it fires up

So, can i safely use any value 1UF or 0.10UF and it will work fine ? Not so sure about this one. Sure thing is the PSU doesn't fire up at all without a cap at that C55 location. I have 20 of them to fix !

The IC is TL3842, one end of that cap is connected to the GND plane so as pin 5 (GND) of the TL3842, so you just need to find out what the other end of the C55 is connected to, I cannot trace out the connection from the pictures, then you look at the application notes schematic to see what the cap should be.

              Hello Cheebster,
Did you end up replacing C55? i can confirm that this capacitor is the reason behind most of your psu's.
I had the same issue with at least 6 of them. i never got lucky identifying the value of it.
in some other cases, i had C50 cracked as well, i tried removing them with hot air, they just crack in million parts, never got lucky with those 2.

Please let me know how did it go?

                Hello again guys,
Does anyone have a service manual / schematics for the 9242 / Vip622 power supply board?
                Greatly appreciated.

                Thanks

Re: Dish Network VIP622 Power Supply Ticking

After thorough troubleshooting, i found that C50, C54 and C55 are the main reasons behind these PSU failures, but i have no values unfortunately.

I am troubleshooting one of these boards, no power to secondary side.
Noticed there is a lot of weight in the middle of this long thin board making it bowed in the middle. When I look close with a magnifier I see a break from the transformer to R54. I soldered a jumper across the break and re flowed all the transformer legs and chassis grounds. It now works.
