Clevo N150SD powers on for 10 secs

Hi, I have a Clevo N150SD, its power (white LED) light comes on for about 10 seconds then goes back to standby (orange LED) light.

    CPU Vcore is 1.69V, PL1 & PL2 coils.

    PL9, PL10 & PL7 have no voltage.

I have found 3.3V & 5V voltages on the board so I assume those rails are working.

CPU heats up, GPU stays cold.

What should I check next? Thanks

Schematics attached, their half way through the PDF

Did you try with a working Bios ? for PL9 PL10 PL7 test Diode mode Multimeter for Ohms
PL12 1 PL13 Coil 3&5V test Diode mode Multimeter for Ohms
    PL11 1.35V
    VDDQ VTT 0.75VS ?
    V CORE ?
    U20 pin 8 or 9 3V ?
    U22 pin 8 or 9 5V ?
    RTC VCC ?
    RTC RST ?

I unfortunately do not have a flasher for the bios chip. Is there a way to flash from USB?

I am unsure how to test with diode mode as I am still learning the trade. :-)

      Ohms to ground:
      PL7 - 46 Ohms
      PL9 - 10.3 Ohms
      PL10 - 10.3 Ohms
      -------------------------------------
      PL12 - 5.22V
      PL13 - 3.29V
      -------------------------------------
      PL11 - 1.35V
      -------------------------------------
      VDDQ VTT? PU3 pin 24 - 0.67V
      -------------------------------------
      VCORE? PL1 & PL2 - 1.69V
      -------------------------------------
      U20 pin 8 & 9 - 3V
      U22 pin 8 & 9 - 5V
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RTC VCC? D8 pin 3 - quickly jumping up & down from roughly 1.18V to 60mV & up again
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RTC RST? I'm not sure where to test this one sorry

you must buy a Bios Flashing tool with the Cilp so no need to remove the Bios chip every time from Ebay ect less than 15AUD
yes i have seen Bios flashing VIA USB with a another Lap and a Secial tool Raspberry Pi

Thanks, I found a CH341A with a clip on ebay in my previous post so I'll get that one. 🙂

Those clips don`t work very well with the CH341A. Best to desolder the bios if you can, or get a better programmer if you intend to repair more laptops in future. A good choice is the RT809F ,TL866II, RT809H .

I've ordered a CH341A with the clip, if I have issues I can desolder the bios no worries, I don't usually come across bios issues very often

Even the "better" programmers won't work well with SOIC clips… I stopped trying and I desolder the chip everytime. (even providing external power doesn't help in some cases)

If you have VCore and PLTRST# then next is indeed trying to flash the BIOS.

i agree Piernov some Mobs you must desolder the chip

"RTC VCC? D8 pin 3 - quickly jumping up & down from roughly 1.18V to 60mV & up again" it should be 3.3V
                      voltage in D8 pin 1 2 3 shold be 3.3V piernov?

I agree too, even with genuine pomono clips and external power it doesn`t always work.I own 2 of the green pcb version CH341A`s .

You are correct, my mistake, D8 was on the other side of the board & all pins are 3.3V.

What is the EC and what do I do with it?

The EC controls the fan speed. You can make a USB bootable DOS drive, and include the files from the EC folder ,boot from it and run flash.bat ,the instructions are included. https://rufus.ie/

Ah ok, just tried now as I was waiting for your reply, unfortunately there is no difference than before, GPU fan spins a little and stops then after a few seconds power light goes back to standby
