    50LN5310 Burnt backlight

This LED actually caught on fire burning the paper backing around it. The double side tape underneath it had become unstuck so the section of the strip was floating without any heatsinking. Luckily the paper reflector backing doesn't seem super flammable. There were about four other bad LEDs in this TV without visible damage. Once repaired, I checked the backlight setting and none of the inputs were at 100%. Though this is not a smart TV, I have found on the smart LN models, the media player and smart apps (Youtube, Netflix) may run the backlight at 100% by default.

    Re: 50LN5310 Burnt backlight

Some of these have the ability to apply backlight settings to all inputs. I had a 47LN5750 the same way, and in about the same location in the TV.

With these LG TVs you need to reset the Backlight setting for each individual input.

This is the worst I've seen so far 50LN5750. Burn marks on diffuser sheet as well which will need to be replaced if I come across one.

I may have some of those diffuser sheets depending where in BC you are.

Got a cracked Samsung 50" but not sure if the diffuser from it will fit the LG. If anyone is repairing a LG 50LN or 50LA or 50LB and can give me the exact dimensions of the thicker plastic diffuser panel that is directly above the backlights, I would appreciate it.

I plan to have one apart tomorrow evening and can measure it. I also have a spare diffuser I've set aside for you... just haven't got out your way yet.

I should have a 50 inch LG coming in today for a backlight repair so can compare the panels.

The Samsung diffuser panel dimension is an exact match for the LG one. 24 3/4" x 43 9/16"

This is the worst one I've seen... just pulled it apart yesterday.

The 50LN5310 (non-smart) and 50LN5750 (smart) use the same panel.

I once used the backlights and LCD panel from a 5310 to repair a more valuable 5750.

Either way, that's some terrible damage you've pictured there... I've never seen an LED fail that catastrophically.

Luckily the whole TV did not catch on fire.
