      Well, technically speaking, wood does have better thermal conduction than air.

      As to how much difference this will make instead of running the transistor just in open-air is a whole another topic.

      Oh, and hope that's a genuine 3055 BJT and not a cheapo knockoff China one with a fractional die area.
