    What is this wire???

    Hi,

Please kindly help, what is this wire? size?

Samsng monitor 275T didn't have screen and I replace a bad capacitor but still now working. After reading "bad glue," I tried to clean brown hard glue and found out the one is burned out and falling under glue.

What is this wire? where should i get this?
The power supply board is BN44-00163A.

    Thanks anyway.

    Re: What is this wire???

The wire appears to be standard 20 or 22AWG silvered/tinned solid copper wire, you can get this from a few online electronic component retailers like Mouser for example. But you could also try eBay/Amazon/Aliexpress/Banggood, however, there is no guarantee that the stuff you get there is real copper wire.

And if you're asking if the stuff on your PCB needs to be replaced, unless the wire is turning green, the answer is most likely no. I know the bad glue is fairly hygroscopic, but i'm not sure if it's corrosive, but i could be wrong.

      Thanks for your reply.
Can I use copper wire 20 or 22AWG without tinned?

If it's just corrosive, I won't touch. It's complete broken off.

Yes, you can use standard 20/22AWG copper wire. It actually appears that this PCB used steel links based on the color of the corrosion. But a copper replacement will work fine, just keep the wire as short as you can make it.

Use a 1/4W resistor lead (or similar component). You can preform it to span the gap between the thru-holes and then solder it in just like a regular component.

wow, it sounds easier~ so resistor won't affect the power? ohm or something?

No you just use one end of resistor wire not the hole resistor just the wire ends

looks thicker than a 1/4 watt resistor wire . whether it needs to be as thick is the question

                      Remove defective wire.

                      Clean hole.

Insert largest diameter component lead that will fit.

                      Trim to length.

                        I'm newbie~

any suggestion for the largest diameter component has long lead? Thanks

looks thicker than earth, i was thinking copper house wiring cable too.
looks like maybe 1mm in the pic.

Do you guys know 24 or 26AWG is ok?

"Romex" (NM cable) is typically 14AWG or 12AWG here in the states. The conductor in the photos appears approximately the same dia as a component lead -- whether it is a 1/4W resistor, 1/2W or even 1W may be debatable.

The OP can remove the wire and check it's diameter with a micrometer.

Or, just lay it side-by-side with various component leads to "eyeball" it.

(A photo with such leads would be informative -- note the dia of the holes for the other nearby components of similar dia in the photo! How many components appear to have 14AWG pins??)

Maybe if it does not generate any heat from it but you can use wire wrapping wire if you put a few of them together and twist them together and the diameter is not bigger than the hole in the board

I have have done this before and it has worked for me

Or if you do use 24AWG wire remove the insulation from it if it generates heat

unwinding a choke from a scrap psu is also a good source of copper wire.

You'd have to sand the "varnish" off... (at least on the ends of the salvaged length)
