Re: What is a mechanical solder sucker?

Well according to post #4 in this thread, it's perfectly fine to replace the aluminum electrolytic caps with solid polymer ones:

    Is that true?

Ok, can you elaborate on select carefully? I was only going by 680uf and 4volts.

I've used the spring loaded ones for years and never damaged a board. I used to really hate them, but then I discovered that a bit of silicon grease injected into the tip prevents the solder from sticking and makes them work pretty good.

that sounds like a poly already - got a foto?

Actually I guess it's a poly since it doesn't have the vents on top. So my question is can I replace this capacitor with a sleeveless capacitor? It basically looks like an all metal cap but it has the same values.

If anyone could help me choose some 680uf 4v capacitors below:

I don't know exactly what ESR value to look for but I would like the capacitors to be close to 8mmx8mm although there is not much choice in those dimensions. I would need the width to be as close to 8mm as possible so they don't touch each other side by side.

Well I got all the capacitors in, not sure if I should power up the board, i'm not confident in skills. Do you guys think it looks ok or some things might be shorted once power is applied?
