    Replace BQ24781 with BQ24780?

    Can I replace a BQ24781 with a BQ24780?

I can't find a datasheet on the BQ24781 by the way.

    Thanks!

    I found this https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-man...81-description
    Information from the TI forum:
They are family parts, with minor difference on the switching frequency. BQ24781 supports 300kHz/400kHz lower switching frequency options. For your information, BQ24800 has better accuracy and improved performance.
BQ24781 datasheet is not available online. Please use BQ24780S. They have the same SMBUS address, default values and options.
Not sure if this is helpful or not.

Yes, BQ24780 can be replaced with BQ24781 but if it has "S" suffix(Like BQ24780S) then it has to be replaced with same suffix.

        Ok thank you.

What is the significance of the "S" suffix by the way?

I have an Acer Aspire A515-43 that would not charge the battery. Acts like power cord is being unplugged & plugged. Also, if running only on AC and laptop is powered on, if battery is plugged in, system powers off without warning after a couple seconds.
I replaced the charge controller BQ24781 with a BQ24780s and it now charges the battery.

Check the voltage to ground of each pin on the battery connector. Need to be sure the smbus lines are not shorted due to an ESD transient event. Check the SCL and SDA pins.

Can confirm, it's also compatible the other way around. Just replaced BQ24780S with BQ24781.
