![]() I have for many years have used NETGEAR routers and most of the time I get about 2 to 4 years of service before I have issues with it but this one is a pain in the a** to say the least
First of all it goes offline for no reason at all Or it has an error message that says no internet connection The other issue is that sometimes it asks for the password also for reasons that I can think of Power cycling it helps but a week or maybe longer then you have some kind of issue like website loading very slow or can not access the printer or whatever it decides not to work properly anymore or sometimes it is very reluctant to connect a new device you have to retry several times before it will connect I purchased at Costco or it might have been Sam club about 3 or 4 months ago so I probably can not return it anymore What could be the issue with this router the last time I checked there was no firmware update except for the one that I installed when I first got the router There seem to be no issues with the router getting hot or anything like that

![]() I've had many routers go flaky due to bad caps. edit: ethernet switches too.
I would check the electrolytic capacitors, including the 12V output of the wall adapter because the caps in it can go bad as well. Many Netgear router models have been hacked repeatedly, check the firmware Release Notes at https://www.netgear.com/support You better not have "Remote Management" enabled... Examples of exploits: https://www.tomsguide.com/news/netge...ter-admin-hack https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/new...fi-router-bug/ |

![]() Worked on an ASUS router that used to be stable as a rock. All of the sudden it did strange things, like choppy internet / wifi, hardly can access the login page, etc…
Fix was a simple firmware downgrade. That all I had to do, not even a factory reset. |
