    Which Flux Cleaner To Use

Is it important to use the 'Static Free' stuff?

The can i just ran out of was static free and i'm wondering if i can buy something cheaper without causing damage.

Is static really a problem on closed circiuts? Won't any residual charge drain away from the sensitive devices on my motherboard?

Re: Which Flux Cleaner To Use

Primarily your flux cleaner needs to be selected based on the type of flux you're removing. Generally you do not need high-priced aerosol cans of cleaner unless you have a very special flux.

If using typical rosin-core, I suggest you just use the purest % of alcohol that is readily available with a toothbrush. If the result is hazy, use another rinse before letting it dry.

Static can be a problem on some circuits but you don't even mention what you're cleaning. Within the context of this forum, typical SMPS subcircuit related cap failure circuits are not very sensitive and should survive anything, but aerosol cans are the most expensive and not necessarily any better than other methods.
