    Lg 55ls4500

I got this tv tonight for free of a guy on Craigslist and this is what happens (image attached). I haven't opened it up yet but I'm not sure if it is the LCD panel, T-Con board, or something else. Looking for any possible advice.

We will need to see the pictures of the whole back side of the TV showing all the boards.
Something like this I would try having the cable between the T-CON board and the LCD panel connected one at a time to see what you get on the screen, also do the Voltage testings on the test points on the T-CON board.

I can't get a multimeter until tomorrow to test voltages but I opened it up and checked the pictures with just one cable attached at a time and here is what I got. Ignore the smudge and the glare in the first picture, There are no lines just a black screen.

This looks to be using the same blank PCB as your board but I am not 100% sure since I cannot read the white silk screen as printed on your board.
          Please verify.
There are many Voltage test points in that T-CON board that need to be checked.

I bought a t-con board off of ebay and it still does the same thing, no change. All the connections are tight and everything. Would I be correct in thinking it's either the main board or a bad panel and which would be more likely?

You need to test the Voltage test point on the T-Con as suggested in post #5 to find out if they are OK or not, that may tell you if you have problem in the LCD panel or not. The problem can be as simple as shorted cap in the tab bonding boards.

                Re: Lg 55ls4500

the fact that you got another tcon with the same result (is it exactly the same result with the one cable at a time connected?) likely indicates it is not a tcon problem. Further, the one picture that shows a white side (probably the detached side) with the other side showing lines (vertical) is not a good sign. The picture showing the opposite "setup" does not show the white screen on the disconnected side further indicates similar problems especially with the band of vertical lines now on the other side.

As budm suggested, you may get lucky and find a bad component (capacitor or resistor) in the bottom edge board that that cables connect.
