Can I use a 1800uf 6.3v 8mm x 20mm to replace a 1800uf 6.3v 8mm X 24mm? This is off a cheap compaq MB

You have to compare specs for ripple and ESR for the original and replacement capacitor. You want the same or more ripple, the same or less ESR.

What brand and series are the original capacitors and the replacements?

The original say TK and atwb 746a the new ones are rubycon mcz t1033

Here is the datasheet for MCZ:



The ATWB datasheet doesn't list the 8x24mm size. However, MCZ has about 12% higher ripple compared to the same size ATWB. This should offset some of the size difference. I would say that MCZ would be an adequate replacement.
