    Another Westinghouse 19" monitor issue

I think I have a bad capacitor on the power board, but I'm not 100% sure. I took photos of the board and of the capacitor in question. Looks to be a bulge in the top of the cap.

Any ideas on how much it would cost to have that cap replaced? I can't solder to save my life..

    capacitor is a capxon 2200 microF 10v

    THanks

    Welcome to Badcaps.Net

I suggest that you get the data for all the caps (except the bi one) and post the data so replacement for all of them can be suggested, as it would be wise to recap entirely. The cost is small, but you need to do it yourself.
What model of the Westinghouse 19" do you have?
Also, what symptoms has the unit?

      Hey eguevarae,
I have a Westinghouse SK-19H210S. It's classified by W as a LCD TV on their site.

My experience with electronics is limited to watching my buddy tinker and two labs in college. Of course I never soldered as we used those breadboards for all our projects.

Not sure which the bi caps are, but all the caps with the cylindrical form and defined (-) on them are:

      All CapXon Capacitors
      One 100uF 400V
      One 2200uF 10V
      Two 1000uF 25V
      One 1000uF 10V
      Two 220uF 25V
      One 47uF 50V
      One 22uF 50V

Dunno if I have the skills to recap entirely, but I can likely handle the one that is blown as it's on the outer edge of the board and not very cramped.

You forgot the series. In the second picture I see that the CapXon is a KF series. Make sure all are KF or post the series of all if they are different. Think of CapXon as the brand and the KF series identifier as a model. We need the complete info to suggest replacements (well, PCBONEZ needs it....).
And again, it would be wise to recap all of them at once. Not counting the big one (the first on your list) there are 9 caps in the list. If one blew, all of the others will almost for sure give problems (maybe they are bad already, but with no indication you'll not know without an ESR meter). Just imagine opening your LCD 8 times more instead of doing it just this time ....

And you still have to post the symptoms.

Did you check the fuse at the AC input (black box at upper left portion of 1st pic)?
If AC is getting in, have you measured the voltage reaching the caps?

I didn't. Was kinda scared to plug in the power board with the blown caps. If it's ok to do then I'll check. I have a multimeter. Gonna wait til my friend comes over though in case I electrocute myself. At least then I'll have someone to hide the porn from my family so that they won't find it when they are going through my estate! hahahah

And don't worry. It was working (or trying to) that way.

I prefer Digi-Key. Their low-cost shipping option is USPS first class mail. For small orders it's as fast as Priority Mail at 1/3 the cost.

I second that. Mouser has a higher shipping rate (not that much, but if you are ordering just for this unit, it really is not worth it).

Hey folks.. thanks to everyone who helped me. Two weeks and 50 bones later, my $250 tv works. I'm excited that this was something that I could prevent from going in the garbage and repair. So many cheaply made items are "disposable" and not cost effective to fix. Thanks again!!!

So I have the same monitor and also the same issue (bulging caps, won't power on).

I also have all of the same capacitors except for 2.

                                All CapXon Capacitors
                                One KM 100uF 400V
                                One KF 2200uF 10V
                                Two KF 1000uF 25V
                                One KF 1000uF 10V
Two GL 470uF 25V (these are different than listed above)
                                One GL 47uF 50V
                                One GL 22uF 50V

I was hoping someone could tell me what caps I can replace these with.

Also, if the OP had any other issues I might expect other than replacing the caps it would be good to know since our situations are almost identical.

I usually use Panasonic FCs in LCD inverters and power supplies.

                                  Digikey has them.

This isn't the VRM of a mobo here where ESR is critical any good brand of low ESR caps will do.
Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

I also have all of the same capacitors except for 2.

                                    All CapXon Capacitors
                                    One KM 100uF 400V
                                    One KF 2200uF 10V
                                    Two KF 1000uF 25V
                                    One KF 1000uF 10V
Two GL 470uF 25V (these are different than listed above)
                                    One GL 47uF 50V
                                    One GL 22uF 50V

I was hoping someone could tell me what caps I can replace these with.

Also, if the OP had any other issues I might expect other than replacing the caps it would be good to know since our situations are almost identical.
Change the caps (400v one isn't really necessary. Leave it alone for now) and bring the monitor to life. If green power led shines in all it's glory and no image, we can mess with the inverter side.

Alright, here is the list of the replacement caps. Let me know if it's alright.

Also, just curious, why do I not need to replace the 400v? It doesn't seem bad but is there less of a chance it will go bad compared to the others?

Exactly. Only a power surge might damage it more often than not. They rarely fail (60+ units so far and I've not seen one dead or heard about one around here).
As for the list, one of our seniors will confirm it in no time.
