    Old xbox replacement power supply...

    Hi!

I have been offered, by one of my friends, an old Xbox (classic).

Unfortunately it's one of the Xbox which power supply was faulty and for which ms was providing what I think was an arc fault interrupter instead of the regular power cord.

Has anybody used replacement power supplies found on places likes Ebay and were you satisfied with the quality?

    Thank you!

The only problem with the original psu was the directly soldered input connector with no other mount point the the solder joint.
Solder joints can`t stand mechanical forces very well, so they break and due to the higher resistance of an cold solder joint the whole thing does arc into a fire.

To avoid this happening, simply resolder the mains plugs solder joints and provide some mechanical strengthening by applying some kind of epoxy to the plug`s casing.

      Thank you very much gonzo0815!

I had heard about resoldering the connectors but the glue is a nice touch (especially since I read that some people were still have the problem of the soldering coming lose after repairing them)...

      Thank you!

apply ca around the edges and let it seep under the jack.
        hit it with zip kicker.
good luck ever removing it again!

I resoldered and hot glued mine. Still going strong!
