    Yep...

    The regulator is faulty...
If don't have the same one, there should be some other replacements...
BTW that aluminium tape is too paranoid,lol...
I don't use it even when reballing...it's just a youtube blah...

      Ahahahah
Loved that ! Not that I use it for protecting anything from heat, but I've moved small components arround those I'm working @ , like resistors and C's , and to avoid damaging anything arround, I use it as you saw on photos .

Call it a newbie protection LoL

I'm doing a reball on a GTX560 Ti and I didn't use it ... no components arround I could accidentally touch

Gonna try to find a replacement for that regulator on my scrap boards or I will order a new one from Ebay.
      Gonna check that this WD.

Thanks again, and of course I will update the thread when that new regulator will be in place.

      A good weekend for all

You won't damage anything...if so, you can still solder it back...this way you'll practice steady hands...you'll find out, when you'll be reworking 10-15 mobos a day... (i'm talking about hot air & twezers)

          Hello guys!

So, after a while without update waiting for the regulator, here's the result.

Took some minutes to solder this guy back.
First attempt didn't work out, but on the second one it went good.

Time to test, adaptor in, led of power went on!
Good vibes. Measured, 3.3v and 5V are present. Nice!

Pressed power button, green led lights up, fan starts spinning and ... no image.
All voltages present OK on the PADS. Fan starts spinning full after 30 secs powering on.
If I try to power it OFF pressing power button, there's no response from the machine. I can't power it off, only removing power adapter.
Mesured bios Chip, 3.3V present on pins 3 and 8, 0.8V on pin1.

So looked at those nasty ATI BGA chips and I've got two of them, as you can see on photos.
Measured those small caps on the BGA's on diode mode, and found 2 of them shorted (marked those on red on the right side of the 215-0674034 ati chip).

Is this a bad BGA chip? or should I troubleshoot other components ?
can a bad BGA chip prevent a laptop from powering off ?

Or just reball this little bastard?

          Thanks for any inputs!

So I should get a new chip first?
Reballing it is a waste of time?

Could a bad chip prevent a laptop from powering off?

              Thanks

So buy a new ATI chip and replace it that's the way to go right?

Those 2 small caps that present themselves shorted are the confirmation of this ?

                  Thanks!

Beware, that is the Northbridge you are talking about and because you have the discrete version, some of Nortbridge's lines usually are connected to ground.

                      Thanks Atsio for the reminder.

So seeing this , do you recommend reballing the north bridge or getting a new one?

When you say that they are shorted, what is the reading? What is the current drawn when you press the power button? Have you flashed the bios?

                          Hello Atsio!

The reading is 0.00 ohm. diode mode.

I haven't read the power drawn neither flashing bios.
Would be better starting by that I suppose?

                          Thanks

                            Hello again!

I think I should start by bios flash.

Looked for the dump on the web, no joy.

This is the A300D-18A unit, model NÂș PSAHCE-0900TPT

                            Board: PT10AP-6050A2172301-MB-A03

Could anyone help me with this?

Also I've looked at the bios chip, and I see some green stuff on pin 4 , maybe corrosion ... I took a picture, what do you guys think?

                            Change this chip?
Or remove it, clean it and reflash it?
