Pulled this Onkyo TA-600D Tapedeck out of storage. Decided to pop the lid before plugging it in.. good thing I did that..
I assume those are Y-caps (?!). They were soldered across the power switch (i.e. from the live side to the switched side ; like a bridge over the switch)
Any idea what to replace them with? For now I've just removed them and everything works fine, but they surely weren't there just for decoration purposes..
I'm planning to do a basic restoration. Dating it was pretty easy thanks to the datecodes on the Nichicon lytics with the funky looking top "vent" in there. 7824 .. Week 24, 1978 .. damn
Caps are all Marcon, Nichicon, Sanyo and Nippon Chemicon. "Out of the box" it does work, and even the belt still appears to be good (still soft and no cracks). No humming in the audio, but dirty pots and switches.. the usual stuff.
The only real showstoppers are the missing front cover and a pretty worn out head. Attached photos are bigger than the ones above.
