Asus with X555LD mb shutdown randomly

    Hi guys,

I have an Asus with X555LD motherboard that shutdown randomly. It doesn't matter if there's battery or not, RAM (the only removable bank) or not, hdd or not: it randomly shutdown and the orange light appears.

Sometimes it shutdown even in the bios.

Is there anyone with the same issue?

Thanks in advance for the reply!

How long is there from turning on to shutting down? a constant time or random?
Does it turn on after a shut down?
Does any IC get hot on the mainboard?

Sometimes it shuts down after a couple of seconds, sometimes it stays on for hours.

For example, today I ran Ubuntu via USB for 3 hours without issues, then I rebooted to install Ubuntu into the hdd. It turns on three times on on the Ubuntu prompt (is where I can choose to install or try ubuntu, a sort of DOS window).

I rebooted it again for the third time and now It's running the installation without problems.

Yes, it always turns on after a shut down.

I dunno if any IC gets hot, I have to check.

Maybe some of 330 or 470 caps are faulty?

Are them smd, right? So I believe it's hard to check which one is faulty...

Yes they are smd. I had a laptop with random shutdowns so I replaced all of these black caps and problem was solved.

Is there any way to check them without desoldering?

I think there isn't. Just look for scrap board and use it caps or buy new ones.

Ok, now I understand what a clear me is.

The question now is: is the clear me operation the same for all the computers?

Should I follow the instructions on the Youtube link in this thread, or should I follow one for my specific Asus notebook?

Yes, you just need the right version of Intel ME tools for your particular version. The nice folks over at win-raid.com have made a comprehensive collection available for free: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/in...sitories/30869

You can find the tools needed to load the cleared regions into your BIOS at the same site.

I made a thread on that site, they think the issue is not me related.

I need some help to find the right file to try it anyway, could you please help me to understand what's the correct procedure to clear me on this laptop?

You could ask them there how to do it, i know there is a method of clearing the ME region that does not involve taking the laptop apart and using a BIOS programmer.

I have a programmer and most of the laptops that come my way are already dead, so i have to take them apart to begin with. Can't help with the software-only solution.
