gl702vm 6th gen for service - No Post

    greetings all,

    i have a gl702vm 6th gen for service.
the laptop turns off after 3-4 secs.it doesn't even post.
i tried some bios dumps but the problem persists.
the cpu insta overheat but the gpu stays cool.
i think the laptop turns off because off the cpu insta overheat.
1.06v on cpu is ok btw.
    any ideas are welcome

I had similar board with similar issue. It has a 1060 6gb gpu isnt it?

From my experiance, when the power supply was plugged, the CPU temp was jumping quickly to 80C then the board was cutting the power.

On cpu rails there is no abnormal diod measures at all. All were just fine. And provide the voltage as it should.

And because the gpu was cool. I suspected the PCH. And replaced it. But that did not solve the issue.

So i decided Ok it might be the cpu. And i replaced the cpu with i5-8300H one, which was the only working one i have.

Guess what, exactly same results. The cpu temp raising to 80C and shuts off.

Unfortunately, i do not have a gtx1060 chip to test it.

However, i suspect the gpu ram banks but not the gpu itself. Because when i provide 0.5v to gpu rails it consumes 0.1A and some consumes 0.3A so i believe the GPU os probably ok.

In contrast, when i provide 0.6v to ram banks rail, it consumes 0.7A which in normal circumstances should only consume 0.1A.

Now in my case, i did not have time to replace the ram banks. Mainly because if the Ram banks are some how shorted then it is very likely the the gpu chip is defected too.

Very weired issue. But this was my experience with a similar board. And the chances might be very odd to exactly match your board issue although itvis exactly similar board.

yes,it is the one with the 1060 6gb gpu.
thank you very much for the info you shared.
i believe that if the problem begins from the vram block, the laptop should stay on while no voltage on vram block rails.no?
i would probably cut the power on gpu rail and check if the laptop stays on.

Check the pch, is a common issue on these boards
