    MSI K8N Neo4

This Neo4 is actually a replacement I got from MSI years ago, after the original failed due to bad caps. I used this replacement rarely in the last few years only to back up my main system.

Was noticing a problem for quite a while, if power had been removed (not plugged in) for a while, it would take 3 or 4 minutes before it would power up. I wasn't sure if the mb or power supply was the culprit. Once the Neo4 was up and running, I experienced no issues.

Well, I did a backup yesterday , but when I tried to boot up today, nothing. No fans or lights. I removed the power supply, (quite old) and tested it, and apparently all the voltages are good.

So.... I think the ye old caps have failed me. The 4 caps near the CPU do have bulging tops, I don't see any leakage.

Is there anything I'm overlooking or should try before giving up on this old beast.

Wondering also what it would cost and how difficult it would be to replace those 4 caps, assuming those are the only problem.

    1) Pulled the power supply and tested it. Voltages look ok. ps fan spins up.

    2) When the power supply is attached to the mb, the ps fan doesn't even spin up, and no sign of life on the mb.

Is this consistent with bad caps on the mb or some other issue?

It could well be the caps. The only way to find out is to try recapping it and see what happens.

I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

          and inspect the psu.
it might be ok at no load and fall on its face with a load.

^ Yup, bad caps in the PSU can cause its voltages to go out of spec when under load but working just fine without a load.
And bulging caps are never a good thing. Eliminate those before doing anything else.
