    k9ag neo2 digital - post mortem

    Hi.

I took this machine out of service because I thought a hdd went bad. There it sat for a year. I turned it on recently, dead. No video, no beep codes. Cpu fan comes on. Replaced the power supply. Tested board with one ram chip (ok to have one), then the other. Then no cpu. No beeps. Upon inspection of the board I see a very bad cap:

I replaced the obviously bulged cap and it's two neighbors. Same ratings, but just random caps from my local electrical supply shop. The taller is an LXZ 10v 1800uf. The other two are 10v 1500uf, FC. These two have a logo of an M in a box.

I didn't retain the bad caps, but I think they were the same as most of the others that are KZJ caps (not well regarded by the forum).

So, still doesn't work, same symptoms. I bought a POST card, but it hasnt arrived yet.

Here's your chance to beat up a noob. What did I do wrong?

    New caps:

    Back side solder.

Ouch, magnified the picture and answered my own question. I didn't think the camera on this phone was that good.

I thought they felt slightly loose on top...
