    VRM Caps for GIGABYTE GA-7VM400M-RZ?

I am trying to determine a source of quality VRM caps for a Gigabyte GA-7VM400M-RZ. The bad caps in question are 3300uF, 6.3VDC 10mm x 25mm electrolytics. All five are leaking and burst on the mainboard. I believe the original caps are KZG by United Chemicon.

    Any suggestions?

Re: VRM Caps for GIGABYTE GA-7VM400M-RZ?

I have the previous (but very similar) version of this board, the GA-7VM333M-RZ with the Via KM266 Northbridge, and everything else being generally identical. It came with 2x 1200uF/6.3V OST RLS at the VRM input, and 5x 3300/6.3V OST RLX at the VRM output. It was running ok, but a pre-emptive recap was in order in view of its age (~6 years). IMHO, KZGs are sometimes counterfeited, and they're even less durable than the OST RLX.

I used 1800uF/16V/10mm Panasonic FJ instead of the OST RLS at the VRM input - I had them lying around, and no FJ has ever failed on me in the last 4+ years. Lots of other low-ESR caps should work here - Rubycon ZL, ZLH, MBZ, Panasonic FM, FK, Nippon Chemicon KZE, Nichicon HD, HE, PW, etc.

At the VRM output, I used 6x 3300uF/6.3 Nichicon HM (post-2004 date code). I populated one additional capacitor location here for additional overclock margin, if necessary. Panasonic FJ 3300uF/6.3 from EBay should also work fine here.

It runs rock-stable and cool with an Athlon XP 2000+ OC'ed to 165 FSB (2.06 GHz) and DDR400 memory. BIOS shows the CPU temp at 55c w/overclock and 50c at the stock 133 FSB/ 1.67 GHz setting.

I haven't tried it yet, but it should have no difficulty with the Barton mobiles at 166 MHz FSB.
