LY R690 BGA Rework station. impressions?

    Hello.

I am looking to buy a rework station and i found this model LY R690

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2014-...782280616.html

Does anybody have any experience with that model or any other model from Liyang?

i am open to suggestion for any other station you think is good.

    Regards in advance

Seems to be a copy of the Honton R390 with a touchscreen. I would get the Honton instead as you have the factory guarantee.

I was looking at Honton too. both R390 and R490 model.
is there any significant difference on the R490?

My main area of work will be game consoles and laptop reballing.

one think i was wondering. can anybody modify a hot air station to replace the top heater with an ir?

R490 has more power and a bit larger work area, but R390 will do OK. I know someone who used a R390 and sold it only because he built his own station. He has many videos using it, see a PS3 gpu reballing here:

I don't know if it is possible for the Honton, but other stations are configurable with either hot air or IR.

Don't know anything about those. Scotle is same quality with ACHI - not so good. Replacement of stock top heaters is necessary as they do not heat evenly and will burn sensitive chips. That would be an extra hassle and more money.

I use a hot air-based station myself. Actually nothing more than a regular hot air SMD rework station, plus a preheater, special BGA nozzles and some control circuitry. It works fine for my needs. The only limitation is that you cannot replace connectors or sockets with hot air as they will melt. But for chips hot air is actually better IMHO.

It's indeed a copy of this honton
              http://advancedreworks.com/bga-rewor...10v-BGA-Rework

The R390 is outdated. The R-392 is the revised model.

Here is the difference between the R390 and the R392.

They can both perform the same type of job and handle a wide variety of boards.
The R-490 is easier to operate because you only need to enter the setting for all the three zones on the integrated lcd display.
The R-392, same as the R390, has an annoying condition that the top and bottom fans keep running as long as the machine is powered on. Only way to turn them off is by pressing a switch that then heats up the IR plates all the time

Re: LY R690 BGA Rework station. impressions?

it all depends on which chips you are working with, your experience level, quality of machine and budget
                    there are several stations

with air you have nozzles and air flow which can not be used to rework plastic parts such as sockets

this articles talks about air and ir

I actually found the PID on the r392 to be easier than the screen on the r490, if it was a touch screen maybe that would be better

the ir360 is much higher than your current budget

which types of boards and chips do you want to rework

is budget a concern or quality

Do you consider scotle ir360 pro a good machine?
