Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi, my name is Adam.
I first got into electronics when maplin had the old diy soldering kits and over the years I got into repairing pcs and other electronics.
I recently started doing component level repair when the company My job outsourced to consistently disappointed (i'll retain the names of the not so innocent )
Now I have a proper workshop and am learning many many things as my new company grows.
Hopefully I can add some useful content to the forum.

As a newly qualified TV Technician I used my wages to buy one of those newfangled computers, a Sinclair ZX81 and to make it really special I also bought the 16K ram expansion pack, Pong was great. I guess that says it all

                      Hello,

My ASUS X551CA laptop is giving some trouble, CPU heats up and the system shuts itself down, because the fan that cools the CPU fails to start while CPU is getting hot and if I disconnect and reconnect it to MOBO the fan starts but I can not keep my laptop open like that.

Why does is do that? Is that a software or a hardware problem?

There are four wires from MOBO to fan, can I cut one or two to make the fan run full speed all the time? or is there any other solution?

Found this forum searching for, Schematics for APC Smart-UPS
                                  I have a smart-ups 1100 changed all the caps,
everything appeared to be fixed, But now Operates fine
on AC, Remove AC it switches to Battery.. Everything works fine
But then when AC is restored,
                                  it shuts down.
flashes the green on Line led
and flashes the yellow on battery LED.

I looked up this in the owners manual, all
                                  it says is internal error.

Hoping to find out what the problem my be.

Hi, I'm retired but not that old, had to stop work because of illness so figured I would learn new skills. I've dismantled various electronic equipment and replaced boards etc but just don't know enough yet to be confident around components also I'm the worlds worst solderer unless its pipe sized which I'm pretty good at. In my previous existence I was a building surveyor who specialised in gas installations.

I realise its not good manners to ask for something on the first date but I do need some help. My youngest's Toshiba Tv has died. It has a Vettel power supply TV is a 32BV801B - PS is 17PW25-4 V1 - 250111 - 20576514. It looks like several Caps have died and a bit of the board has melted so not really repairable. Do I have to use the exact same board? Or can I fit another with the same connections/layout. Reading earlier posts some of you seem to say that you have done this. Its proving difficult to find the exact same as these TVs seem to have been for the spanish market. The TV standby light (white) stopped working long before the TV actually died so if any body knows if this means the main board may also be US then please let me know. Any help gratefully received and thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, I'm Funkwarrior and this world is completely new to me; but I really like to repair things when they are still usable. I hate make trash and spend money for new stuff when with a bit patience the broken stuff can be repaired.
I try to repair essentially for me and closed friends who can't spend a lot of money. So everything i repair is for free or a fine dinner.
I hope I can help too in some ways.
                                      Have a nice day forum!

                                          Hi, everyone.
Electronics is both my profession and my hobby. I've seen BadCaps mentioned here and there over the years but never got around to joining it until now. I've just joined to post about a problem (I can't be the only one to do that) but will probably stick around for a long time.
