    ProView EM-190 TFT Model 900

    This VDU was rec'd dead
This requires a 12V 5.0A or greater PSU for the power.

Usual culprits, crapacitors with high ESR
Both of the NKCon EVX 25V 100uF caps on the invertor pcb read 13Z!

However on the controller pcb, a 8 pin SMT device is burned.
Trying to source this part with diffuculty.
    All I can read from the part is;
ST ??..Q6W6 on one line and below
    B or 8 followed by 433S
I'm pretty sure it is a Q as I can make out half of it with the tail
on the bottom RHC as the tail of the Q is in the style used with
    etched IC numbers.

    Obviously a ST Microelectronics part.
The missing part number cannot be read due to the thermal damage.

    Any help here greatly appreciated

    Thx

Have you tried to clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) on a cotton tipped pin? I've found that it often brings out the text on such surfaces.

      Well...

      Yes, cleaned as usual
But anyway the IC is thermally damaged with a hole in it!

      Thx

That unfortunately usually means something ELSE has failed. I'm sure you're aware the best hope of identifying the 'blown' component is by comparing to an identical monitor. In the meantime, a picture of the circuit board might help.

          24C16W6
          ST logo
          842SS

8 might be a, (b), also one or more S may be (5)
there is a data sheet for first number,
Got it from a EM-170 , may be what you want

You, Sir, are a genius. Actual part number would be M24C16WBN6TG, made by ST Microelectronics. The bottom line is date code / manufacturing plant, etc. It appears to be a Serial EEPROM. Probably used to store brightness, contrast, etc. settings.
