the first. the second is gutless junk.

95% of the PSUs from geeks.com are trash... it's like they have a contract with hongkongflyapart, LLC

I'd go with that one. It's a similar price to the others, is made by Seasonic and has Japanese capacitors. 1KW is overkill for any PC (unless you want 3 GTX295s in SLI or something like that)

The coolpower is a leadman built unit. Stay far away from it.

The rosewill is a good performing superflower unit. It's quite a bit of psu for $130. The XFX is a bit cheaper, probably a slightly better performer, but 150W less.

It would depend on how much power you need. If you truley need a 1000W psu, the rosewill will do fine, otherwise I would go with the XFX.

The XFX core one looks good.

This one is also very good for the money:

I have this one and it's excellent:

Don't go for high wattage - it doesn't mean everything. THe quality of the insides matters a lot too.

Any of those two would also be good, although I think that the XFX 850W one I suggested offers the best value for money. It's a seasonic built unit, but its a bit cheaper than the Seasonic branded 650W.

It looks like a sirfa/sirtec/high power from the top, although both superflower and sirtec are good manufacturers

guesstimating what PSU is best is kinda pointless if you don't know what system it's going to be used in IMHO.

What if it turns out he wants a 1kW PSU for a quadcore with a single graphics card or something..?
No matter which one you chose, they'd all be total overkill and sub-optimal (bored to death) for a system like that.

Re: Which Power Supply Is Best ????

The power supply you received in the kit is good enough for your needs, no need to pick another one.

Your system doesn't use more than 200-300 watts of power... for reference here's each part:

50-60 watts the processor - up to 100-120w when encoding videos, playing games
                        20-40 watts motherboard components
                        4-8 watts per memory module
12 watts for each hard drive

Single rail vs Multi rail makes absolutely no difference in terms of quality of power sent to the system.

Multiple rails on a low wattage power supply can sometimes hamper overclocking - for example a 550-600w power supply may advertise 4 rails with 18 amps each but that value is peak power - continuously each rail can do only 10-12 amps. If the power supply is badly designed and uses one rail for the cpu connector and one of the video card's extra power connectors then when you're overclocking, that rail could be overloaded and the power supply will shut down itself.

It may be preferred to have multi rail when going with a 1000w+ power supply because if there's some short circuit in the case, you basically have a welding machine - the power supply may not stop itself until the short cables burn up. But this almost never happens.

Not many psu's rate their multiple rails at peak values. Most are set at continuous ratings, peak is usually 5-8A higher. Some antecs set the OCP 15A or higher above what they rate the rails at (such as the HCP-1200, some have pulled up to 1800W from it well in spec without tripping the OCP)

You are right on lower wattage units, but again, a 500W may have 2 20A rails, which typically may have OCP trip points at 25A each, but combined can only put out 36A. They do this as to not "trap" as much power.

maximum is like peak power. doesn't mean crap. this term has no established standard or meaning... sure, a 250W unit could do 500w for a few milliseconds before gong boom... therefore, some brands would call that the peak power.

continuous means more... assuming the company is being honest. (cheap brands like to slap high numbers on lower units).

like people have said, read the reviews before you buy... good ones will do a load test with an oscilliscope to measure ripple...

It's an OK power supply using a new design that's almost identical with the one in Superflower's Golder Green series of power supplies.

You can compare that 1000w psu with this 800w psu: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...Story&reid=229

So yeah, if you get that for 100-110$, it's worth the price.

But as I said above, you DON'T NEED another psu with that system you have - you're barely reaching 300 watts now.
