Well, I've been taking my toys apart since I got a red and white tool box from Santa when I was 4. Now many decades later I still am at it for fun and sometimes profit. Worked with Dr Paul Weathers in the 70's doing warranty work for the big manufactures, and helping him with his hi end "HI FI" equipment. Lots of fun, loads of magic smoke released, met a bunch of the old school engineers from RCA camden. Opened Resorts Casino in 1978, worked in entertainment department, I was in charge of hi tech and weird stuff, radio broadcasts, satellite uplinks, boxing events, feature movies,etc. Like this site because it saves me time troubleshooting, as always two brains are better than one and a bunch of branes make for better results especially with the complexity of equipment today. Hello All I am new to the forum, No background in Electronics but lots of experience replacing damaged hardware/upgrading existing hardware in home electronic devices now branching out to my television

Well, I have to say that I've used posts on this site for a while now - so why not join in? A little about me? Well, I've loved to tinker with electronics since ... well, at least since I was little. I used to desolder components of discarded electronics, scavenge discarded computers at the local dump, etc... Today, I am still an avid scavenger of electronics with some repair skills. I love to tinker and do things myself from cars to computers to electronics. I've replaced parts and resurrected many LCD monitors, laptops, desktops, etc. Basically, 1) I like the challenge and to learn 2) like the sense of accomplishment of a job well done and 3) HATE to see useable/repairable things wasted. Now that I'm tackling LCD TV's, I need help and support...

I see the "first" PC is a topic here so... The first PC that was actually mine was an Epson Equity III 286 @12mhz (on "turbo"). It had a green TTL monochrome monitor, a 1.2MB 5.25 drive and a 40MB MFM Hard drive. This was replaced by a scavenged Epson Equity II+ with a - get this - VGA monitor off an 8bit card with basically the same specs as the Equity III, but I think it was a 16mhz 286. I still have this one in a shed at my parents house. This was in 1994-95ish... Long before I built my "college" PC in 97 - a 486-DX4 100mhz system from parts from that huge magazine "Computer Shopper" in pre-internet dominated days

Hello everyone, my name is Bobby and I signed up yesterday. I enjoy gaming and PCs quite a bit I have come to join this forum in order to learn more about my passion and also to get help if I need it and help somebody as well. Afternoon All

I'm new to the forum and have a background in IT but would rank myself as a complete noob when it comes to electronics!

I've done tons on work in the past diagnosing hardware faults with PCs / Laptops / Servers, games consoles and a bit with mobiles.

I've had a keen interest in electronics for years but it's only in the last couple of years when I've bought a soldering iron - and am still learning how to use it! Next on my list is a Multimeter.

I've always had a knack for resurrecting old kit based on gut feel and getting more into eletronics seem like the next logical step for me.

The kinds of things I'd be interested in learning more about are the items listed above, plus things like TVs and HiFi equipment but more at component level which is much more appealing than just swapping boards in and out

Hopefully here to learn a lot more, and try to brain dump the bits of information that I do know

Hi,first let me say this forum is great,im sure its saved many tvs from the landfill.thanks for your time.

ok,i have a thomson 32he8234b.
the tv turns on,acts as it should for a few mins,sometimes longer,or shorter.then when your least expecting it.....the screen crashes losing all picture,only showing multi coloured vertical lines while a loud very irritating buzzing noise comes from the speakers.
i got this from ebay,i have opened tv.seen no bad caps although i did replace them,and the ones on main board.i also reseated the tcon ribbon cable.im lost with it,im wondering if its a small cap mounted on the main board?or is it a bad tcon?
i dont really wanna spend much money on it,its a good tv,but im thinking iv wasted enough on it,i dont wanna get a new main board to find its faulty tcon,but then why would tcon make the speakers buzz? agghhh.

im sorry if iv posted this in the wrong location,iv been a member of the forum for a bit,but my first post here.thanks for reading,regards charlie

something else,iv only ever used hdmi as i have sky tv,maybe hdmi issue?

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum. My name is propalen and I live in the UK. I have some knowledge in electronics, but limited in the area of power electronics. My main goal is to be able to repair the more than often failing power supplies. I always tend to think that is always a faulty cap. But the current power supply that I am trying to repair is more than a challenge. My first related question to you guys is about it. This power supplies have the rectifier stage before the transformer. I thought that normally the rectifier stage is after the transformer. Is this the case? Do you need an special type of transformer if you have the rectifier stage before the primary? If so, what is the name of these types of transformers?.

Hi all, just registered so I could get one of the manuals- sorry,know that sounds kinda crass, but thought I'd at least post a thanks in the intro(I definitely DO appreciate the info). FYI: I'm an electrician and repair tech, electronics as a hobby since high school(don't ask when)- was given a LG monitor and Google pointed me here(gotta love 'em) Keep up the awesome work- glad to see not everyone pitches something out without a try.
