    Samsung LN46A550 Power Cycling

Got it from a guy who tried repairing the power board and completely failed at soldering. Bought a power board and put it in, now the power relay comes on and clicks, but the Red LED flashes in the front, will click again and start flashing LED again multiple times, no backlight, or sounds coming from the speakers of the TV. Read a few posts saying to replace C102 and C131 on the main board. But BUDM said to try something in parallel to see if it works and I didn't understand how to try something "In parallel". Is this easy to do? Does it require removing C102 from the board?

And if I order caps do I order the 100uF or 47uF as said in one post...I think 47uF,

    Could someone chime in?
    Thanks a ton,

    Zack

      FOR MAIN BOARD REPAIR....
Replace C102 and C131 original caps marked AS7 with tantalum caps
47uf@10v ( observe polarity ) line on original denotes positive +
      common on A line ( LN32A,40A,46A,52A )
C131 top side next to CN101
C102 bottom side next to IC101

Wow thank you Terryfictv, and budm.

Budm, the visual on how the parallel works is perfect for me. I had a hard time trying to figure out how that would work - the pic does it for me - thanks.

Oh wait, I can just do the parallel and it has been proven to work for a period of time?! BOOO YAH!

I did 5 so far for friends and none of them come back yet. I did them as the experiment.

Does it matter if 16v or 10v? I see 16v in the picture. From my experience the voltage in this case wouldn't matter much, but please let me know - you have far more knowledge than I do. Thanks

I think I did it wrong, at first I connected it to whatever T108 was... then I looked and there is not a little metal connector where you connected it to the board budm... How did you connect it and where? How do you connect it parallel? When I did it, it changed how the TV started a little but never started up fully, but would me connecting the capacitor to t108 screw up the capacitor so Id have to replace it?

Let me know where or how I connect it parallel please haha

You will have to scrape off the Green solder mask to expose the bare copper.

Where do I scrape it off from? Just to the right of the dark green path like you did? And would I have messed anything up if I soldered it to the t108 solder dot above where you soldered it? Thanks, Z

Scrape the green masking off by the Positive leg (bar marking) and the Negative leg which is sollered to the Ground plane, just enough t expose the bare copper for you to solder the cap legs to, not to the Test Point TP108.

It is a little hard to tell in the pix if TP108 is in the green area...
I am looking at my board and it appears to me the negative cap leg should be below
                          TP108...scrape the area between R107 & C108....HTH.
Do not connect to TP108 ! Or, it would be easier to solder the neg lead to the
large ground lug immediately to the left !

So I did this yesterday, and powered it up when connected to the TP108 at one point... would that mess anything up? Im going to try and resolder it tonight to the point you guys are talking about, should I get a different cap?

Small flat blade screw driver works well for scraping off the solder mask, just take you time and do not let the screw driver slip on you and damage the parts on the board.

You did use low ESR type cap, right?
You can try paralleling the C131 too or just replace both caps.
BTW, can I see the pictures of your works?
