Do Radeon 9800s usually have BGA or bad-solder-in-general issues?

Has anyone with a Radeon 9800 (includes Pro) have corrupted BIOS screen or corruption when in Windows?

I had one where it had an intermittent connection.
Sometimes, when reseated in the AGP slot, it works fine for a real short time then the video corruption is back!

And then when I reseat it again, still the same type of crap!

Unfortunately, I trashed mine a long time ago, back in the same year I got it, because I didn't even get a chance to run any 3D before that started! I got mine second hand in 2007.

Is this a GPU defect? Seems that this was one of ATI's most failure prone cards!

And once, I almost made a full loop of 3D Mark 2001 SE. But when it almost completed a full pass, the video corruption crap started again! I think it was just random and nothing to do with 3D Mark stability.

It suspect it comes back as soon there's a vibration or any movement!

No, it didn't use unleaded solder, but the symptoms you describe sound like failed ram.
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

Actually, it seems like they're is something loose and it sometimes looks better when I move the card some in the AGP slot when on.

Might have some light corrosion in the slot.
Usually pulling and reinserting the card a few times rubs it off and takes care of the problem.

The AGP slot is OK and it does this type of crap on other boards.

To me, it looked more like it needed a reflow major time!

How do the contact pads on the card look?
            Shinny or dulled up?
Any look worn through the plating.?

Long shots, but what the heck.
