Re: Laptop won't connect to the network

Your computer is doing something with Adobe flash to an external host (not the router). The external host is 67.148.47.71 (some host on qwest's network).

If you haven't run a virus scan lately, I suggest malwarebytes.org (free version).

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

The reported numbers may mean nothing. You can test the throughput of your wifi by doing something like a file transfer and timing it.

Sometimes I run speedtest.net to see how fast my ISP is, but this also indirectly tests your wifi connection.

That started after I blocked the MAC address of the "Don-HP" computer. Maybe CenturyLink (formerly Qwest) is checking my computer for the stuff he was downloading. I don't think there is any malware on this computer, but Norton never detects anything except false positives. It could have come from Toshiba when they replaced the hard drive or it could have spread from an other computer on the network (probably the one that I blocked).

My DSL connection is only 5Mbps, so the network connection speed will never be that slow.

I don't know what it is doing. I closed Internet Explorer (after it was using almost 2GB of memory due to the memory leak that IE has always had) and the weird network activity stopped. Closing the browser usually doesn't stop the activity. It usually doesn't stop until I shut the computer down.

Now that I switched to Firefox, the link speed in Task Manager dropped to 58Mbps. I thought that would be somewhat accurate.

You might have had a plug in or something either doing updates or some info collection?

I run two browsers 99% of the time.

Opera with all extra stuff (java, extensions, plugins, etc) turned OFF for all the forums because I don't need any extras for just viewing text.

Chrome for websites that won't work with extensions or features turned on.

I only use IE for banking as some sites don't work properly in any other browser. After I'm done my banking, I clear all the cache/cookies and close down IE.

maybe there is problem with the wireless routers. have you tried contacting the technical department of the router vendors? the problem looks like in the baseband part
