I have been looking at the Epson EMP-83H (standard version) and the EMP-83He (education version). I bougth them off eBay as spares or repair. Their problem was that they were full of dust inside the light engine. Cleaning up the lenses, mirrors and polarisers soon fixed that.
They look pretty much indentical inside. I was hoping there might be a solder bridge to change the 83He education version to the 83H but I could not find one on either side of the main PCB.
I tried connecting the control panel for the 83H to the 83He but that didn't work. The 83He has a full set of pushbuttons under the orange cover.
So, I guess it's in the firmware, and I haven't found any reference to firmware, nor any way of flashing it.
The good news is that you can change the user logo so you don't get that alarming message at power on.
