Car USB power module 5V 8A

How do I mount this stupid thing? It has a 2mm hole and a couple 1mm holes close to traces. M2 fits but no way I can drill that precise in a car.

Upgrading my car USB power and can't stuff it in a box or bolt it down.

1 HP Printer Supply & Control Board * lighting finished it *

These two repairs where found with a ESR meter...> Temp at 50*F then at 90*F the ESR reading more than 10%

1 Over Head Crane Current Sensing Board ( VFD Failure Five Years Later )
2 Hem Saw Computer Stack Board

All of these had CAPs POOF

I thought about buying some of these but it does not look to me that it would put out 8 amps @ 5 volts

Let us know if it really does 8 amps

        Thanks

Re: Car USB power module 5V 8A

At 8A output it heats up, dissipates around 3.5W the inductor gets hot.
They say use use a cooling fan if you want 8A all the time. It's really good for ~5A with no problem and efficiency stays over 92% at load. It uses TPS40057 and 40A MOSFETS but at lower 100kHz. It's like a bigger KIM-055L module.
There is a newer version V2 with a MSOP-10 IC I have not tried.
Mine outputs 5.3V which is too much I think, so I removed a 47k resistor to get 5.1V

          Qisheng Electronics QSKJ
          QS-1205CBUM-8A V1.03
          8-35VDC to 5V 8A

There is also a 5V 5A version (no USB jacks) that is very good for powering micros and $3, made by some other chinese company. Uses TPS40057 and flat pack mosfets.

For mounting, tiny M2 spacers fits the small holes and a M3 in the bigger hole. I'll either mount it first to a small metal plate or try pcb feet.

Re: Car USB power module 5V 8A

I've tested it at 8A. My rule of thumb - rated chinese watts/amps, best to cut in half...

The power components - the two AOD4184 MOSFETS are rated 40A, and the inductor Sumida CDEP-147NP-9R5MS rated 9.6A and the reverse polarity MOSFET Si4800 9A (12V input side). I drew the schematic.

So all the parts are good enough but heat goes up under full load. The hottest part is the inductor gets hot, to ~60C at 8A so a hot sunny day would get to 75C which is too much for me.

If I charge three USB devices to say 6.3A it gets warm but not going to croak.
Because of cold winters I swap in polymer caps instead of the 220uF electrolytics.

So would you say it worth buying some on scale one ( not worth the money ) ten ( being the best thing on the planet ) what rating would you give it

what do you want them for?
because you can get boards now that support QC3.0 (quickcharge variable voltage)
