    Sony, HP, Tosi screen problem

    Hi!

What caused the pictured problem? Screen, cable, vga chip surely not. I have more laptops with this syndrome. One time i replaced the lcd cable socket on HP CQ56 motherboard. No luck. The colors varies per display, some display is only black with backlight.

What do you get on external monitor?

could be bad TCON on the lcd itself.

That means faulty laptop LCD, because it has light and shows color, it highly could be tcon, it could be swapped with new one.

Some of the older vaios have a small 4 way dipswitch on the motherboard that needs changing switch positions if you install another compatible LCD screen. Check the schematic . Flashing the EDID eeprom can also help in a few cases.

EDIT: picture is from an MBX-202 M790 schematic. The switch has 4 positions, 0-3 for each different lcd. The 1`s and 0`s are binary, reading from right to left .

                        Hello,

On the VAIO what is the code of the gpu chipset?
I had similar problem where internal picture had problem but external was OK and the problem was from the gpu chipset.
If I am correct this vaio series have an ati gpu - 2 types right?
