Linksys SPA942 VOIP phone, screen flashes briefly about every second

My office VOIP phone Linksys SPA942 died a few minutes ago. The symptoms are as stated in the title:

    - the screen flashes very shortly, goes blank about 1 second and repeats the same
    - I can hear a clicking sound in the handset in the same pattern

I have measured the voltage on the adapter and it is as stated on the adapter: 5.2V. The adapter is labeled: INPUT: 100-240V~, 50-60Hz, 0.35A OUTPUT: 5.0V 2A.

I have opened the phone up and disconnected everything I could: handset, screen, speaker, case and the voltage all over the motherboard varies at the same rate as the screen flashes: from about 0.5V to about 1.9V. I cannot find 5V anywhere on the motherboard.

Everything on the motherboard looks absolutely pristine under visual inspection.

I don't have a replacement adapter to test if the adapter is failing under load.

    My guess is the obvious:

#1 adapter is failing under load OR
#2 motherboard is going into some sort of a boot loop.

What would be the easiest way to figure out if it is actually the phone that is dead?

Truns out the adapter died. I've managed to fiddle the bench power supply probes into the connector and the phone booted.
