    Help to recognize cap for old floppy drive

    A have i old external floppy drive for an old hp omnibook 530, the floppy cant read any disks , so a want to try to change the cap but a cant read what the value are, hope someone can help me, a will attach 2 pics so you can se the board and the cap.

    You can probably use any general purpose or low esr (nothing fancy) capacitor.

    It's most likely 100uF 10v rated (filtering the 5v from the psu) but just to be on the safe side you can use a capacitor rated for 16v or 25v - tech has evolved a lot and capacitors are much smaller these days so newer capacitors will fit just fine.

      I think a new cap may not solve your issue, but give it a try anyways. Most old floppy drives I have that don't want to read discs typically came from extremely dirty computers. I think it's just dust that gets stuck on the heads over time, so they can't read properly.
