42" VIZO Television Will Not Power On

I have a VIZO that gets power to the front VIZO logo, it glows. However the TV will not power on. I thought mabe you guys could point me in the right direction. The model number is VW42L HDTV10A. Thanks and have a blessed day.

At least the 5vdc standby power supply is working. We need good clear pictures of the boards and how all the boards are connected together, the good closed up pictures of the power supply board connectors so we can read the labels on them. Use GO ADVANCED to upload the pictures.

See if you can get it to cut on by holding down the power button. I had this problem but fiddling with the button I was able to get it on.......to show me all the more problems it had lol.

There are tons of threads for this TV that state this same problem. You might want to first search for that model number in this site and read up on how to fix that problem. There is only a very tiny possibility that the problem that your TV has is unique and has not been touched on this site. From U33 and other regulators to bad driver chips on the master or slave inverter cards, this TV has been picked to death. You wont be disappointed by the ammount of info you will find. Search tags include: VW42L, VO42L, and VX42L... I think.

I just repaired the same exact model Vizio, it had the orange Vizio logo and would not power on, I was able to check voltages on the main board and Voltage regulator U7 had normal input voltage of 3.3v but very low output of only .8v (should have been about 1.25 to 1.30) here's my voltage readings that I had. 0n U7 rightmost pin was 3.3v, middle pin was .8v, left pin was .01 v but after replacing U7 the middle pin/output voltage was 1.27v and the set returned to normal operation. cost of 49 cents plus shipping from Digikey
I also replaced U33 (exact same part number as U7) since it is a common failure. Good Luck!

Exactly how do I check the voltage? Do I need a digital multimeter only? Do I plug the TV into the wall and check the voltage? Or I do I check for resistance?

OK, on the power supply board as shown in your pictures, there are 3 white connectors on the top side of the board, check and see if you have 24v and 12V on those pins.

Yes you need digital volt meter, black probe on the chassis, red probe on the 24V pin.
Do not touch the board with your hands.

OK, on the power supply board as shown in your pictures, there are 3 white connectors on the top side of the board, check and see if you have 24v and 12V on those pins.

I will check those in about two or three days when the volt meter arrives from Dallas Texas. I didn't have one when I started this thread. I ordered one this afternoon so it will be a few days. Please don't give up on this thread. Thank you.

Does the TV set need to be powered? I am assuming so if we are checking for voltage..

I was able to check the voltages on my same model Vizio with just the amber light showing, it is in standby mode. so no you do not need to have it turned on but yes it must be plugged in to the 120 volt ac outlet.

To get 12V and 24V though the TV -will- need to be powered on.

Thanks tom66 Yes you do have to have the set powered on to get the 12v or 24v But if you want to check voltages on the small voltage regulators known as LDO'S on the main board you may be able to so with the set plugged in and the amber Vizio light being on meaning it is in standby mode. Check all 5 small regulators on this board, U2, U7,U8,U9 and U33, write down separately the voltages found on each one..and reply back with what you found. with the tab at the top and the 3 pins at the bottom far left is pin 1 which is the adjustment pin or ground, middle pin is pin 2 it is the output voltage and far right is pin 3 it has the input voltage, the tab and middle pin are connected so those will have the same voltage reading.

Ok, thanks to you all for your support. I noticed in one of your photos a ground cable connected to a screw on your power supply board. Mine doesn't have that wire connected. Am I suppose to have it. Instead, my set is grounded at the power cord plug. Is that the equvalant? I will post the voltage readings as soon as my DMM arrives in the mail.
