HP Pavilion 15-P (Y11A) no power, S5_ON not present

    Hello,
I have this HP Pavilion 15-P (Y11A) with no power either through Battery or AC adapter. S5_ON is not present.

Initially, there was a partial short on PD10. After replacing PD10, short was gone. Now, 5VS5 is present, but 3VS5 is not present.

    Please, what can be done?

Also, no voltage at Pin 1 and Pin 3 of PQ20.

I have replaced PQ20 with a known working one, while the one i removed is working on another board too.

first check the voltage of PU1 pin 20 5 4 6 ? Gate of PQ20 need 24V to by pass voltage to PR211

White LED next to AC adapter connector?

              PU1
              Pin 20 = 20.0v
              Pin 5 = 2.95v
              Pin 6 = 2.68v
              Pin 4 = 0.00

                  BQ24738 pin 4 ACDRV is 0V means PQ20 Voltage will not flowit shoud be 24V, pin 4 of PU1 impedance ? PQ20 Gate & Drain impedance ?

I don't have an Oscilloscope to measure the Impedance. Any way around that?

You dont need an oscilloscope to measure impedance. Just do it with your multimeter.Btw, what@piernov means by asking white led is "whether the light on dc jack is glowing white or not"

You said 5VS5 is present so 19V power rail +VIN should be present.

Ok, No white light. But it does shows Amber led when the battery and AC adapter are connected. It doesn't charge, just shows the Amber led.

I forgot to mention, 5VS5 is only present when Battery and AC adapter are connected. +VIN is 14.65

Here is my readings [with Battery only]

                                PQ20
                                Pin 4 = 14.20
                                Pin 1 = 14.50
                                Pin 3 = 14.65

                                Pin 1 = 14.65
                                Pin 2 = 14.65
                                Pin 3 = 14.62
                                Pin 4 = 14.54
                                Pin 5 = 0.00
                                Pin 6 = 1.16
                                Pin 20 = 14.20

                                PL8 = 15.23

Set your multimeter to the highest resistance range available. the Greek letter omega (Ω), or sometimes by the word “ohms.”

I think that's just me measuring their resistances.

                                    PQ20
Drain = 84k ohms (initially started dropping from Mega ohms)
                                    Gate = 120k ohms

                                    PU1
                                    Pin 4 = 141k ohms

Ok so, I didn't even take into account that I was using the wrong charger. The board is DIS and the recommended charger is 90W meanwhile I'm using a 45W charger.

I've just requested for a 90W charger. I'll post my findings when I receive the right charger.

Re: HP Pavilion 15-P (Y11A) no power, S5_ON not present

After working on the system with Battery only, I've been able to get the system to power On successfully. I haven't gotten the required 90W adapter yet. It's still not powering On with the 45W adapter.

It turns out two resistors were missing PR128 and PR134. After replacing those resistors, it powered On with Battery.
