Hi There,
The other week, I turned on my dell precision 450 to find 2 of 4 ram slots weren't working and cd & hard drives aren't being detected. When I opened the case, I instantly noticed a goldy/orangey powder/rust on top of a cap (wasn't there before). I scraped of this orange 'stuff' to find the cap was bulging (not flat). I have found replacement caps on the internet but if I can use the caps I at hand then i'd rather use them (quick).
Basically the bad cap is a Nichicon 1800uf 6.3v..
I have a spare motherboard with Nichicon 1500uf 16v caps.
My question is can i replace this bad 1800uf 6.3 cap with a 1500uf 16v?
Is it safe to do so, and will i experience any problems?
I'm new to this 'blown & leaking capacitor' stuff :P
The reason I came here, is because you guys know what you're talking about.
Thanks in advance,
-David
///EDIT
i should add:
1800uf 6.3v cap is about 18mm high?, and 10mm wide? :S
1500uf 16v cap is about 20mm high? and 9-10mm wide? :S
// I really am new to this. Sorry.
///EDIT
I think i put this in the wrong section!! Sorry!!! I was looking at the top of the forum and it said 'battling the bad capacitors' and didnt notice the 'identifying bad capacitors and related symptoms'! ! Please move !
