Good article, but does not delve far enough into bad-cap manufacturers or other products which are affected, ie. routers etc.

Also, does the following statement exclude non-Intel chipset boards from the issues, or is it just me reading too much into it?
"In fact, PCs from Hewlett-Packard and Apple Computer and other PCs using Intel motherboards have all faced similar issues"

there are errors like you noted. such articles are never perfect. overall it was good. the more press the better on this issue errors or not. it is good to see badcaps articles approved for publishing.

I think we will see lots of rubycons on dell boards in future. they are taking a big financial hit.

Story: When good capacitors go bad
I was the first person to bring this subject in the public spotlight - see my site for all the info starting from the beginning as I tried in vain to get places like news.com to carry this story years ago, long before badcaps.net existed.
what do we read into that?

                long before badcaps.net existed

                    Re: Cnet Article 12/10/05

this issue was known from about 98.
i started recapping mobo's then.hell in 99 or so when i bought a new mobo at the dma computerfest i would open the box and check the cap brand first.
got a bunch of work from dealers that had returns they were stuck with.
you would think the industry would get its act together in 7 years!

Re: Cnet Article 2005 Nov 10

I read back in time on Mr. Holzmans bio to find his references to bad caps.
He certainly has computer savvy but I didn't see references to bad caps on motherboards.
It's a tough claim to say any person was the first at anything.
I could say I was the first in my nieghborhood to hook up my friends with our own telephone system, I was nine, soo... who cares.

no he has cap pics on his page and links to press articles/scans, no repair info though. i came accross his site a few years ago. i just thought that the comment was unnecessary, badcaps.net is becoming an excellent reference for badcaps issue but that is because of the members who are posting great info. THANKS guys!

i smiled seeing a top of the page reference on slashdot This has been documented on BadCaps.net for some time and an additional reference in the CNET article gives an idea on how far the forums have come.

i think everybody enjoys to help beginners around the world recap their boards and they in turn will teach their friends the craft. it makes me smile when people report back with success. ok we get a few no post reports as well heh.

anyway THANKS for your contributions to your community. welcome the new members who came via CNET or Slashdot.
