Picked up a dead tv the other day and took a look today... only 3 years old too.
Plugged in and the red light was on, hit the button and it went off, the backlights flashed once and then nothing. No audio chime, no splash screen, just back to the red light.
Took the back off and could clearly smell "burnt". One of the holes behind a back light strip (between lights) was burnt and showed evidence of what we used to call in the auto manufacturing business a "thermal event" (see pic's).
So here's my question - is the damage isolated to that one strip and the other parts usable or should everything be considered scrap.
