    Asus P5GC-MX Micro-ATX

Here is a board I bought to copy files from IDE drives to SATA (because IDE-capable motherboards are getting rare). $28.50 for the board (mfg. July 13, 2011?), 64-bit dual-core Intel CPU, fan, 2 GB RAM (on 1 stick) and I think the I/O shield (and shipping). The CPU fan/HS was the stock design, blowing hot air down onto the capacitors, especially in the VRM area. (I turned the fan upside down but the damage was already done.) Yes, I saw a little board discoloration in the eBay photos and in real life, but with a re-cap and a better CPU cooler, I think this board will start right up.

At first, several keys wouldn't work on my keyboard. So I rebooted. KDE (the Linux GUI) crashed after starting, so I rebooted again. Now KDE crashed during starting. Rebooted again, and the computer never woke up the monitor from sleep mode. The PSU is a brand new Seasonic M-12 II 600W.

    Here is what I have:

North side (between CPU and top of board):
    KZG – 1000 mF 16 Volt 8mm by 20mm 105 C
    KZG – 1500 mF 16 Volt 8mm by 20mm 105 C
    TMV – 680 mF 4 Volt 8mm by 10mm 105 C
(numbers, letters, no vent stamp) (3 of them)

    Between CPU and VRM chokes:
    TMV – 680 mF 4 Volt 8mm by 10mm 105 C
(numbers, letters, no vent stamp) (3 of them)

Between VRM chokes and ATX backplate:
    KZG – 1000 mF 16 Volt 8mm by 20mm 105 C (3 of them)

Between lower VRM choke and big bridge chip:
    KZG – 820 mF 6.3 Volt 8mm by 12mm, 105 C

Between lower VRM choke and rear USB ports:
    KZG – 1500 mF, 6.3 volt, 8mm by 18mm or 20mm 105 C
    KZG – 820 mF, 6.3 Volt, 8mm by 12mm or 13mm, 105 C

Between big bridge chip and memory slot:
    KZG – 820 mF, 6.3 Volt, 8mm by 12mm, 105 C (two of them)

Between the big bridge chip and PCI-Express x16 slot:
    KZG – 820 mF, 6.3 Volt, 8mm by 12mm, 105 C (two of them)

Between second DIMM slot and power conn. / IDE conn.:
    KZG – 820 mF, 6.3 Volt, 8mm by 12mm, 105 C (four of them)
    Fairchild – 680 mF, 6.3 Volt , -55C to 105 C
(yellow with black stripe) (probably okay?)

Between PCI-Express 16 and upper PCI slot:
    KZG – 820 mF, 6.3 Volt, 8mm by 12mm, 105 C (three of them)
    KZG – 470 mF, 6.3 Volt, 8mm by 12mm, 105 C

    Between the two PCI slots:
    KZG – 820 mF, 6.3 Volt, 8mm by 12mm, 105 C

    Below the lowest PCI slot:
    KZG – 820 mF, 6.3 Volt, 8mm by 12mm, 105 C
    KMG – 100mF, 16V, 5.3mm by 11.5mm, 105 C

What would I need to make this boot and last a while? Polymers would be an option, I think. I'll use a better CPU cooler regardless. And yes, I realize Asus puts EITHER the capacitors or the "half-moon" silk screen "backwards" (not both).

Any advice welcome. Thanks for reading !
