    high pitched noise from caps

    Hi,

I successfully recapped an Aopen AK77 600 Max as described here.

Just wondering if anyone came across this before. One of the symptoms this board had prior to recap (aside from frequent inexplicable crashes of Winamp and Opera), was that when I used the scroll wheel in Opera and MS Word, I could hear an extremely high pitched noise, almost beyond the range of hearing.

I investigated and after turning off the speakers to rule out RF interference I concluded the noise was coming from the failed capacitors. After recap the noise has gone. Anyone else heard of this effect before in failed caps? What causes it?

    Regards,
    Achelon

actually the noise is more likely coming from the torroids...
had that on a few old (Socket A, Via KT133A based, SD-RAM) boards.
