    Samsung LE52M86BD 52" faulty BN44-00150B PSU

    Hi.

    Have the dreaded clicking TV on power on, but it will EVENTUALLY turn on and otherwise works ok.

    I've already taken it all apart once, and the 4 1000uf 25v caps were obviously blown.

    We've already replaced these with 1000uf, 25v, 105°C - unknown brand, it's what my Brother-In-Law had in his kit.

    Having looked online it seems that the repair kits for this revision contain 9 caps, the 4x 25v that I've already replaced, plus 5x 10v that "looked" ok.

    I'm planning on getting decent Japanese caps and replacing the lot, but I do have 1 question...

    Should I up the v rating?

    Should I put 16v or 25v in place of the 10v? And 35v or 50v in place of the 25v?

    I was planning on 16v and 35v - but then I stumbled across the minefield that is ESR, and don't know if the increased voltage capacity would cause an ESR issue in this instance. I'm assuming that as the Samwha WB series are supposed to be low ESR, that shouldn't be an issue.

    I'm presuming the NXB is a newer line? They're not solvent-proof like the WB are... Anyway, I found their sheet too: https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...82f02d80b8.pdf

    I'm not used to datasheets, but if I'm reading this correctly, then the specs of the caps are as follows

    Looking at those specs - if I were to stick with Samwha WB- then the 16v in place of the 10v and the 35v in place of the 25v should pose no issue physically. The lead spacing on all of them is 5mm too (which if I go up to 50v changes!)

    The NXB 16v ESR matches the 10v, the WB 16v is lower. The NXB 35v ESR is higher than the WB, but still lower than the 25v.

    There is probably enough space to replace them all with the larger physical size.

    I'm not sure about the other caps in that area - 3 look to be more WB series, but 470uf 50v. As for the 1 with the black top - it's not black, it is actually silver - it's just the reaction to the flash combine with its angle. It's probably the same as the others, but I can't tell without taking it out again.

    -Tip for appliances using the BN94-01206D signal PCB. (Relay clicks slightly faster with a NVM corruption problem. R1131 and R1132 (both 68R) have visible signs of overheating. 13V is measured at one side of these parallel-connected resistors (while relay is on) and 1.2V at the other side. 210R is measured across C1102 (1uf/16V), in line with the 2 resistors. if C1102 is removed then only 37R can be measured . Replace C1102 (with 25V type), R1131 and R1132 (both 68R) at the underside of the signal board, next to connector Cn1101.

    -(Electrolytic capacitors in PSU have been replaced). NVM memory IC1803 (AT24C256) has corrupled software. then replace NVM memory IC1803 (AT24C256), then proceed as follows: switch of appliance via mains switch, then solder two long wires at PIN 5 and 6 of IC and short them at the other end, then start TV via main switch, wait maximum 1-2 seconds ( a click can be heard, backlight doesn't switch on), the remove the short circuit at the two wires. NOTE: it is important not to exceed the time limit(1-2 seconds), otherwise the procedure will have to be repeated, then access service mode (INFO, MENU, mute) . select 'tuner' line and set it to 'AUTO' . then select RESET line. the set should reset itself and upon start-up, it should start automatic search.
    I note in this reply, and in some of the repair kits offered on the bay of e, the IC IC1803 (AT24C256) is suggested to be replaced, and that this is an EEPROM.

    The TV does work normally once it eventually starts, so I don't think this needs replacing - but if it did, does it need to be programmed or pre-programmed? Or is that all done by the TV itself during setup?

    1. Can I use higher voltage/lower ESR caps?
    2. Do I need to change IC1803?

    If the answer to TL: DR Q1 is yes, then I'm looking at Panasonic FM series 16v and 35v

      If the tv turns on and works, the eeprom is ok. if the eeprom was bad or the data corrupt the tv would usually not turn on at all.
      I would use 16v to replace the 10v as long as the diameter will fit. and you could also go with 35v to replace the 25v caps, likely once replaced they will out last the life of the tv.

        Thank you, the can diameter on the upgrade of 10>16, and 25>35 is the same, and there's plenty of height. So I'll do that.

        I take it the lower ESR won't be an issue?

          HELP!

          Right, so when I turned up, I was told that the screen had now give black, but there was still audio.

          I proceeded anyway.

          I've replaced all 9 caps with the above Panasonic's.

          Got it all back together and it's still clicking - took 15 minutes to turn on in total.

          BUT - They have at least got the picture back!

          Could it just be a poor joint?

          Or could it be something else?

            Have you replaced the small capacitors? They are as important as the 1000uF ones.
