More CAPS for Gigabyte VAXP Mainboard ?

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and maybe this is a stupid quiestion but since I've had to recap a mobo from my collection, the Gigabyte VAXP Rev 1.0, I wanted to ask you if it is ok to add more capacitors around the CPU socket as the mobo's PCB clearly shows there is room for 5 more .

I've replaced 3 pieces of 1000mf / 6.3V and 2 of 3300mf / 6.3V.

Next and between the 3300mf ones there are 5 more places where I could place 5 more pices. Should I ?

Location doesn't always tell you where they are connected.
First is check with a DMM to make sure the holes are actually in parallel.
Sometimes they are, other times not.
The ones you marked probably are but you still need to check.

If you want a board you can count on you need to replace all suspect caps.
Looks like you have KZG and OST, both of which often fail without bloating.
I can't make any of the others out from the photo.

As far as uF in the Vcore goes you only need to be over about 5500uF [total].
5500-7500 is normal on most original [unaltered] boards.
- Adding more caps there is to lower ESR, not to add uF.
If you are going from 2 caps to 7 caps in Vcore [using Lytics] I'd use 1500uF or 1800uF caps with very low ESR.
Using 7x 820uF Solid Polymer [with ESR below .010 ohm] is also an option.
