viewsonic 2030wm wont go into high resolution

this monitor only goes to 1024x768 sttings on the screen configuration,if i go higher it will shut off, with a blue on light on all the time.
anybody can suggest what to check?
do other different makes of monitors work the same?

what causes a new cap to bulge(besides being "el cheapo"?
i had replaced a 1500mfd,10v cap with a 1500mfd,16v new cap just yesterday and today its bulged.
    what its going on here?

Re: viewsonic 2030wm wont go into high resolution

        thank you rjarrrpcgp,
no,thats the first thing i checked, and it was in right.
i seen them blow a thick acrilic cover to the roof when they are in backwards,of course they were 1000v ,huge sized caps.
but anyway, all i got right now its those "el cheapo" caps.
next week we are going back to mcallen tx and i'll order some good quality caps.
i put another one and i am keeping an eye on it.
the problem still the same can not adjust past the 1024x768 resdolution and even that went out after 3 hours.
do you think it can be the power board?
or the small caps on the logic board?

Shows us some pictures of the power boards. I suspect just crappy replacement caps, though. Sometimes, it really does pay off to get more expensive higher quality capacitors.

            thank you momaka,
my son took the monitor to his house and used the dvi output and it works fine ,it goes up to max resolution.
            what gives?
only the vga output does not work.

Good to hear back that you got it fixed!
This is exactly why I tell people not to waste their time with crappy caps, even if they only need the fix to be "temporary".
