LeadTek WinFast PC760M02-GX-6RLS with bad caps

It's another repair project of mine which I got from work. The caps on this are as follows

    VRM in:
    4x 16V 1500uF Chemi-Con KZG

    VRM out:
    6x 6.3v 3300uF OST RLX

    Other caps:
    17x 6.3v 1000uF Cheapo Teapo SEK
    10x 16V 470uF GSC ??? Series
    1x 6.3v 3300 OST RLX

Obviously, All of these caps need to be replaced. Ruby MBZ for the VRM in, Panny FJ for the VRM Out and that extra OST, Nichicon HE for the teapos, and Panny FM for the GSC

Re: LeadTek WinFast PC760M02-GX-6RLS with bad caps

I have an Asus P4S800-MX that looks identical to that. I'm using it myself as we speak.
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

Identical, except for the CPU Socket. The ASUS P4S800-MX is Skt. 478 (Intel). This one is Skt. 754 (AMD).

Finally, I have got the last of the caps I need, although I ended up getting rubycon MBZ for the 470uF 16v GSC rather than FM. Will go and re cap it now and post back with results.

Japanese caps on the input and cheap OSTs on the VRM output....that's some funky logic!

I finished re-capping it yesterday arvo. I am currently stress testing it. No probs so far. I gave myself a nice big burn on the leg when a huge fly landed on me and I dropped the soldering iron.

It was a big march fly, so if it bit me, it would have itched (and possibly hurt). Burns from the soldering iron are something I'm used to. I had it fall of the bench once when I put it down to trim the legs on a cap and, as I reflex, I caught it. Unfortunatly, I grabbed it near the tip burnt my hand and fingers.

It's now been running for ~48hrs with no problems (I'm using it to tpye this post). Is that a good enough test? Or are there better tests? I just had an embarrasment with an asus M2N4-SLI which I re-capped (died shortly after the re-cap) and I don't want this to be another one.

They are all fine. Remember, it ran for 48 hrs in a stress test. If any were in backwards, they would have vented by now.

Does the MB power on and spin the fans? Does it find the keyboard? (I.e., do the keyboard LEDs light briefly at power on?) Is there any signal at all on the video? If the board does all these things but doesn't POST, then I might suspect that the BIOS battery died or the BIOS became corrupt. Did you try a different CPU? (Which is risky -- the board might be killing them!) I'd also use a loupe and check for small solder bridges. If you're testing the board on a bench, pressure on the back might have bent something on the solder side, causing a short.

It's powering on and spinning the fans. The keyboard/mouse are powered by the 5vsb rail (ie. they're always on, even when the computer is off) and are getting power. there is no signal at all to the monitor (which is what I meant when I said not posting). I don't have another CPU. I can't find any evidence of a short on the solder side. I'll try re-soldering the joints, but if that doesn't work, I'll probably assume that the northbridge is toast, take the caps of and toss the board out.

Do you have a different graphics card to try? I sometimes find that if the card is not straight in the slot, the board won't POST.

It does seem as though there could be a problem with the board itself since the graphics card is built in, doesn't it? I'd definitely check the soldering, though it's hard to see how it could have worked for 48 hours if the soldering were bad. It seems more likely that bad caps could have weakened other parts just enough to fail soon after the caps did. Is this board in a case or on a bench?
