Re: Dell 3008wfp faulty power supply

    Hi Everyone,

I have a 3008WFP in which I've replaced D22 with STPS40170CT (testing the old D22 showed it was shorted). I also didn't put the ferrite insulator back on the leg of the STPS40170CT. I hope that's OK.

Anyway, I now get a blue power light and the monitor is detected by Windows 7 when I connect my laptop via the VGA connection, but the 3008WFP doesn't show any output. What do I do now?

I haven't put the plastic case or bezel back on so disassembly should be straight forward. Any clues as what to do next are appreciated.

    Regards,
    Tom

Sorry, I forgot to connect the power board connector the the circuit board on the back-right of the monitor.

Now I get a backlight at least but still no output. Also, the On-Screen-Menu doesn't show when I push the buttons. Not even the source select shows. I can't remember if this monitor has an auto source select.

Did you see it working before or did you get it in to fix.

Re: Dell 3008wfp faulty power supply

Hi selldoor, I pulgged the connector in. Then I saw the backlight come on (at least I think it is a backlight as it is a kind of 'glowing' behind the LCD). On the same board there is a small dblue ribbon connector as well. I reseated that as well but still no output or on screen display (menu) showing.

If I disconnect the VGA cable, the blue power indicator light turns to orange.

Re: Dell 3008wfp faulty power supply

            It's working!

Thank you everyone who has contributed here. I was able to debug it by reading through the thread again.

At the top of page 12, Maxidud2000 had a similar issue to me in that the blue power indicator light came on but not signal was received and the on-screen-menu was not working. Selldoor's post in the thread suggests checking the fuses on the board at the top of the monitor. So I disassembled my monitor again and found that one of the plugs to that top board had worked loose during the first reassembly. I check the fuses anyway and found them good, reseated the plugs, reassembled and it worked first time.

            Thanks again everyone!

I find this thread 3 days after I replace my dead 3008WFP with a second hand 3011WFP.
I'll order the part and try to fix my old monitor.
Thanks to everyone for posting their how to repair this fault.

I think you will just have to replace it wire by wire

I have replaced wire by wire, but forgot to twist wires. I think, this is only problem. However, I like to check if cable is properly wired.

                                    Hi Guys,
Just removed D22 from my 3000wfp PSU.
I am trying to determine if it is infact faulty but need some advice.

Using a DMM in DIODE testing mode, i get a voltage drop of 0.158v when placing leads across Anode and Cathode.
If i reverse the leads i get zero volts ( ie no reading ).

Is this the correct way? and are the readings indicative of ok or faulty ?

I need to know before purchasing a new diode which will cost me about AU$25 .

                                    Thank you

Re: Dell 3008wfp faulty power supply

There is no such thing as "no reading" unless your meter is not on or the battery is totally dead.

Do you mean it is on 0.00 or perhaps a 1 on the right hand side of the screen
                                      or OL or something else.

Try testing on ohms 200 test each leg to the other 1-2 1-3 2-3 looking for shorts (same as holding the probes together.

Next Meter on ohms 2000 test 1-2 then again with the probes reversed
then do the same for 2-3.and post the result

                                        Thanks for the reply selldoor.

The "no reading" i was referring to is infact "OL".

                                        1-2 Resistance ( Reversed OL )
                                        1-3 SHORT
                                        2-3 Resistance ( Reversed OL )

                                        I can only set my DMM on ohms, 1kohms, 10kohms, 100kohms, 1Mohms, 10Mohms

                                        Cheers

That is probably an ok D22 as the legs 1 and 3 are joined and the diode
                                          sections perform correctly.
