My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said "w00t.. they have a forum"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up.. [/QUOTE]

Hey All, come from a long background of PC repair but specific electronic repair is not something I am very well versed in anymore, I look forward to talking to you all more and getting help with a few issues and helping others out with the knowledge that I do have

Hey All! I've been building/fixing PCs for quite some time now, but recently got into trying to diagnose and repair electronics of any sort. I've already learned so much just from casually browsing. Hoping to not only learn more, but contribute as well

Well I have nothing to about myself except for the fact that I am always ready to learn. I am merely a hobbyist and has a great passion and deep interest for anything that is technical and mechanical. Folks on the forum also seem friendly and helpful. Have a great one. Cheers!

Hi Everyone,

My name is John and I am from Canada. I have always been interested in electronics and computers. My background is in mechanical design and not electronics, but I have found it fun to take things apart and see how they work.

It wasn't until recently I ran across some broken computer components; motherboard and graphics card, that made me take the plunge and try to do some repairs on them.

I am one to always be opened to learning new things, and I hope to be able to contribute to this forum as well, with whatever limited knowledge I have.

John

Was looking for schematics for a laptop I had in for service and lo and behold BCN had my back, figured I may as well stick around and share my (admittedly limited at times) knowledge of electronics, mainly retro consoles/computers, all the way up to the early '00s releases of the Xbox and PS2.

Hello everyone, my name is Lior Levi and I live in Israel
This is my first time here while I wrote this my first post.
I have HP ProBook 430 G5 2VP86EA and it's BIOS locked with password. no way to upgrade it but I'm enable to use the laptop and enter Windows 10. just the bios is locked.
The global manufacturer refuses to help me
The local lab wants to replace a motherboard for twice the price of a laptop.
I disassemble my laptop and removed the main battery and CMOS battery for few days but still the BIOS is locked.
Mother board model: DA0X8BMB6F0 rev F
Wrote on the BIOS chip: Gigadevice HH1742 25B127DSIG AP15471
From google search I saw some chip os programmer on amazon but I don't know nothing about it. I don't know if it can read and write my BIOS chip or not.
I also saw on ebay some chips for my laptop model but it's not mentioned there if the chips match my motherboard model.
And which manufacturer of the chip itself. Should the chip manufacturer and the chip model be the same as the existing chip?
Are there electrical voltages (volts, watts, amperes) that the chip supports?
How do I know if such a chip is suitable for my computer? That will not cause a short circuit.
what can I do? I really need expert help.
thank you.
