    Laptop inverter

Has anyone ever attempted to repair a laptop inverter?

In my day job I look after IT for a 100 person company. We've seen probably 6 or 7 Dell Latitude inverter failures in the last 6 years.
The ones out of warranty we replace the inverter with a unit from Ebay, and have had great success.

Dell won't sell the part, and will replace the entire screen if under warranty.

Just had a D-810 inverter fail, so thought I might do something crazy, like try to fix it. These things are tiny, could be a major pain in the ass...

Will report back once I start troubleshooting.

The replacement inverters usually sell for $5 USD with free shipping from ebay from far east sellers.

The components are way too small for me and even think about soldering.

Yeah, I'm thinking that parts (FETs and transformers) might be made out of unobtanium.

I got similar problem with toshiba satellite P300D, got DIM screen and inverter is OK.

So I want somehow start that inverter Sumida 94V-0 independent from motherboard, but not got schematic and not really know which 2 pins must connect to power and start CCFL light.

        any idea ?

        thank you

The inverter will requires these signals:
B+ for running the inverter which is connected to the SMD fuse on the inverter board.
Ground which will be the negative leg of the filter cap after the fuse.
BL_ON: Backlights on signal from the main board, >1V = ON
Dim: Dimming control signal from the main board, this one can be variable DC or PWM signal.

are you basing these readings off of a voltmeter or software?

              Re: Laptop inverter

Those 4 signals/voltage are the basic requirement for the inverter to operate. You can use Ohm meter to trace out the B+ and the Ground. The BL_ON you will need DC meter to monitor the line that will toggle high (ON), LOW (OFF) for the BL_ON. Dim may have to use both DC meter or the scope to look at the signal to find out if it is PWM control or not.
It is applied to the monitor and TV as well.

is your screen completely dim? therefore with no backlight? if you want a schematic try to take the datasheet of the IC, there's maybe an example as usual..

Hi. Is not complete dark, I got picture if look from side or use flashlight, but CCFL not start, I got spare LCD and inverter and LCD cable all parts tested and work OK.

I see one time tutorial how to make that bypass but bookmarks gone

                      Is the ic OZ965?
I believe you should see continuity at pin 16 and fuse F1

Hi I check that pin and got 18v there, but I got 0Z991

                        must find datasheet for that

can someone confirm if pins are equal like 0Z9910AGN ?

Can you get more photos? What are IC's?
Continuity for fuse F1 and from F1 to U1 and U2 -at least one pin?

                            primoz1
Use your ohm meter as budm said "...use Ohm meter to trace out the B+".
                            Pin 14 to the fuse.
The IC is turned off and with a high impedance you will see 18v.
Pins 2 and 4 test continuity to only one pin of connector CN1

Bypass what? You mean exclude protection? Be more clear, wich test you've done? You connected togheter:
                              1. lcd 1 - inverter 1 - cable 1 = works?
                              2. lcd 1 - inverter 1 - cable 2 = works?
                              3. lcd 1 - inverter 2 - cable 1 = works?

                              or other combinations?

                                So reball time again

                                will repost back what happen.

This is the thing, inverter start CCFL just for eye blink and go off. I got 3 replacemant screens and cables and inverters and on all is same. I think north bridge is out (bad) but if I success somehow start that CCFL will work like OK. till my new NB chip not arrive from china (end of januar 2014 app)

Because I ask is some option to make some bypass wiring on inverter to start CCFL, but Im not PRO and even SEMI PRO electronic, so that is little tricky and hard for me.

I hope you all understand what I mean.

                                      Thank you.
