Re: Dish Network VIP622 Power Supply Ticking

Just remembered one other point : once, after having changed all the necessary caps in a small psu ( I believe it was from a D-Link switch, not sure ) , the thing would just tick and not stabilize the output tension. I had replaced a lot of other parts trying to find the reason, but nothing would work.

Then, with an inspiring idea, I tested it in the machine and it worked. Probably the circuit didn´t like I was testing it without load.

Maybe your case can be like this , maybe not, but it is another thing you can try.

Try checking the output diodes CR1, CR4, etc...

By the way, the orange cap is probably a Nippon Chemi-Con GXE series (125 degrees C).
The blue one is most likely from the Rubycon RX30 (130 degrees C), or the RX50 (150 degrees C) series.

Agree, check the rectifier diodes, there are two on the heatsinks, and two without the heatsink.

The diodes all test good on DMM, i've checked them first. Yes ben7, all right

Let's see how fast I get in trouble.

I searched the forums for a schematic of the BELL 9242 power supply and only found a single page (50 of 59).

Since this thread is related to a related supply, I thought it should be OK to add here.

Does anyone have the full set?

                          Thanks,

                          JT

I guess there was never a solution for this or was someone able to pinpoint the problem ?

Re: Dish Network VIP622 Power Supply Ticking

Okay, so after many years and having issues with many similar power supplies, i have about 20 of them with similar issues. I've found something there is a SMD capacitor C55 that if i apply pressure to it, some of them will start. After trying to remove the cap on about 10 of them, it seems they are cracked between the connection metal part and the middle of them, they all fell apart when removing. Tried removing other smd caps, never did that.. So, really, that C55 cap is killed by something maybe heat.

I need to find the value of this capacitor, and have no schematics of the power supply. I tried using a working power supply, removing the cap, and checking it with my peak atlas esr meter, and it doesn't find any value.. like the cap isn't there.

Again, all other caps i'm checking with it show a value. It's a non-sence and i really don't understand what's happening here.

Put the cap back in the psu and it works. Without it, no workie. So really that capacitor is good, and it has a value, but the atlas can't find it. What the hell ?

Thanks for any input on this !!!

Put a straight shot, hi res pic here so we can see the circuit.

With the PSU unplugged check each voltage rail on the secondary against GND pin to see if any of the rails is shorted. If it isn't a short on the PSU, there could be one on the main board, making the PSU go tick tick tick

                                    I'd say that C55 is probably a 0.1uF, a 0.01uF or something in between.
Btw. That PSU is different than the pic on the first post.

Um. Can i safely replace it with a 0.1uf? what about voltage ?

Yes it's from a 9200, a bit different but works in either model (9242/vip622 or 942/9200)

                                      Thanks !

Okay. Did you ever see this, smd cap cracking like that ? I guess i'm not breaking it by removing it, am i ? I tried on a few of them with hot air and they broke also, and all others didn't..
